I'm Still Here

I finally have a moment to blog & fill you guys in on what's been going on since we got back from vacation...oh like almost 3 weeks ago!!

Life has been INSANE to say the least!!

The DH & I had been talking for a while about putting our place on the market & buying something bigger. But as a lot of your know, just up & putting your place on the market, while dealing with infertility and/or adoption is not that easy! Because of this we had been putting it off, but after some talking & speaking with our agency, we thought this would be the best way to spend our wait...waiting to sell our place also!

So needless to say, after a week of cleaning out closets, touching up paint & just cleaning, our place goes on the market this afternoon! This is a very bittersweet moment for me, as I bought this place all on my own before I even met my DH. I am excited however...this is a big step for us & means we are moving on to the next phase of our lives together.

The only bigger bummer of all this?! Well, if we don't sell by the end of the summer, we have to pull it off the market, because the agency does not think we would have enough time to redo paperwork in a new home prior to our referral. So if that is the case, we will pull it & then put it back up as soon as LP is home. So only time will tell how this all works out!

I also owe you guys some vaca pictures. Don't worry, they will be coming. Now that the DH & I will not be working on the place so much, we can get them uploaded so I will show them to you all! We had an amazing time & I feel that I was quite adventurous on this vacation! GO ME!

We also got a call from our agency last week saying that Colombia had started meeting last week & was working on matches & referrals. Now, we have NO idea where we are on the list, but this is still a good sign & makes me teary just thinking about it.

Ok, I think that is all the big things right now to catch you guys up on! Sorry I have been a blog slacker!!!

Blog Tour: Adoption Nation, How the Adoption Revolution is Transforming Our Families

Back in March I was contacted about being part of a National week long Blog Tour for Adam Pertman & his book Adoption Nation.

I snatch this opportunity up quickly, as it gave me the chance to read this great adoption book, review it & then pass a copy on to one of my readers!

If you have already read Adoption Nation in the past, this is the new & update version. As we all know, policies, laws, reactions to adoption & more are always changing. I love that Mr. Pertman update his already outstanding book from 2000 & it is reflecting the times we live in now! (I know, 10 years doesn't always seem like a lot, but it really is!)

Adam states on his website that "Given all the dramatic events that have recently taken place in the world of adoption – from a Tennessee mother’s 'return' of her Russian adopted son, to the ongoing controversies in the wake of the Haiti earthquake – and in light of all the fundamental changes that have occurred during the last decade – from the precipitous decline in International adoptions, to the explosion in internet/social media use, to the soaring rate of adoptions from foster care, to policy and practice changes regarding gay/lesbian adoption, open adoptions, birth records, and on and on – I thought it was time to bring my book up to the moment. I believe that understanding our 'Adoption Nation,' so that we can shape a more humane, more ethical and more 'normalized' institution, one that truly serves the needs of children and all their families, is more important than ever."

After reading this book I wished I had found it sooner in my journey. I really feel this is a must read for anyone trying to understand adoption, looking to adopt or even already has.

What can you learn in this book you may ask?!

  • How the role of digital technologies is changing how birth parents & children reconnect
  • New laws that affect open adoption policies &disclosure of birth records
  • Changing trends in domestic adoption
  • Updates on corporate benefit packages for adoptive parents
  • Current demographics on special need & multiracial adoptions
Any book that titles it's first section "Don't Whisper, Don't Lie-It's Not a Secret Anymore" has my vote!

So, would you like to win a copy? Leave a comment telling me why you would like to read this book. The commenting will close at 12pm est, tomorrow, Tuesday the 12th. A winner will be announced Tuesday evening & will receive a copy of the book.
